Islington Council
Arts and Heritage

Islington council's own arts service aims to provide the best possible access to the arts for local people. Its work includes

programming some 200 activities and shows a year, including concerts, exhibitions, workshops, children's shows and touring entertainments for older people;

developing collaborative projects with the local community and arts groups in the borough. A major youth arts project is under way, sponsored by London Weekend Television and the Halifax;

promoting a number of highly successful festivals in the borough in collaboration with local people and arts groups, including the Highbury and Clerkenwell festivals, take note! and the Islington Dance Festival, which is now in its 11th year;

running a museum service and gallery, with plans to develop an innovative and exciting new museum and local history centre;

working closely with local organisations to maximise lottery funding coming into the borough.

Our arts service also includes a first class resources hire service which enables local groups to present musical productions, dance, drama and exhibitions to a very high standard. Arts staff advise on event planning and sources of funding and assist with publicity and promotions.
